album 5: the wildest!
Louis Prima’s The Wildest! is like being at a house party where everyone can play instruments, but they’re all actually really good and not at all annoying.
“Just a Gigolo/ I Ain’t Got Nobody” is so fun and well performed, you just want to be dancing in the room with them performing. It’s like the credit scene in School of Rock, you just want to be there jamming.
Every track features incredible performances from more than just Prima himself, Keely Smith in particular.
If you’re interested in getting into some jazz this is a great album to add to your collection. It has a lot of different styles and paces, something for everyone.
“Oh, Marie” has great call and response that again just feels fun.
How can you not tap your toes to “Jump, Jive, An’ Wail?”
“(I’ll Be Glad When You’re Dead) You Rascal You” was one of my favorites and I think a great way to wrap up the album. It encompassed a lot of the best qualities of “the Wildest!” funny lyrics, great horns, toe tapping rhythms and some incredible improvisation.
Overall I liked this album and it’s fun to hear some of the other tracks on these albums with really popular songs.
