Hi, Abby! Do you think the proliferation of TicketMaster and the price of tickets has also influenced the tone of festivals? I have seen several articles about the decline of music festivals in the UK and Australia - wondering if that is/might happen in the US? Some of it is ticket accessibility but maybe also costs to host and promote.
I think it definitely contributes to live music in general here. I know a lot of people are prioritizing spending a lot to see certain artists and not necessarily going to as many smaller random shows, so inflated ticket prices contribute there. This is also why a lot of artists do a festival circuit now because they don't know if they'll be able to sell out tours. I'm not sure if the increase in price is causing a decline in festival attendance here as of now, because honestly it seems like attendance is pretty high and the main increase in ticket sales over recent years is more related to like VIP or platinum ticket options. It's definitely something to look at in the future.
